The improvement of the ecological integrity of the Natura 2000 sites will be implemented through:

PREPARATORY ACTIONS, DEVELOPMENT OF MANAGEMENT AND ACTION PLANS

  • Preliminary intervention planning
  • Drafting of VIN.CA and/or Screening in the different areas of interest
  • Drafting and sending of necessary documents for any authorisation requests
  • Concertation of the documents with local authorities involved and acquisition of formal authorisations opinions
  • Definitive and executive planning of the interventions
  • Consultation with interested stakeholders

CONSERVATION ACTION

  • Seconnect and restore of 92,000 sq. m. of shifting dunes, using low-cost and low-impact engineering techniques
  • Redevelopment and / or expansion of 823,000 sq m of shifting and fixed dunal habitats
  • Planting of 151,000 focal native species individuals, including 1000 Stipa veneta*
  • Eradication of IAS Oenothera stucchii

EVALUATION OF THE  RESTORATION AND CONSERVATION MEASURES EFFICACY

  • Ex ante and ex post monitoring of anthropogenic threats related to tourist use in the Penisola del Cavallino sites: coastal biotopes, Laguna del Mort and Pinete di Eraclea and Laguna di Caorle – Foce del Tagliamento
  • Monitoring of habitats and populations of target species at all project sites in order to compare the initial condition with the one following redevelopment interventions and quantify their effectiveness
  • Monitoring the project’s impact on ecosystem functions
  • Assessment and and enhancement of the social and economic impact generated by the project’s actions in the territory, on local stakeholders and on users in the areas involved

INCREASE ECOLOGICAL AWARENESS

  • Promotion of project methodologies and the results achieved through traditional communication tools and web 2.0
  • Guidelines on the containment of Oenothera stucchii
  • Guidelines on the use of drones to monitor beaches
  • Guidelines on tour operator involvement in the protection of dunal habitats
  • Organisation of 72 guided tours and 8 environmental education events dedicated to tourists
  • Organisation of around 30 training meetings dedicated to tour operators and representatives of representatives of stakeholders (camp-sites, non-profit organisations, beach establishments, municipal technical offices)
  • Networking with beneficiaries of other dunal habitat projects
